Los tributos florales de la Plaza de Tiananmen

También un 5 de abril la Plaza de Tiananmen se llenó de decenas de miles de flores y tributos, lo que desencadenó una serie de disturbios con la policía, pues aquella era la primera manifestación multitudinaria (unos dos millones de personas, de los 8 millones de habitantes que tenía Pekín entonces) que se celebraba sin que fuera organizada por las autoridades.

Bei Dao

Uno de los poemas más recordados fue el del poeta Bei Dao, La respuesta, que se cita en la agenda revolucionaria. Esta es la traducción al inglés de Bonnie S. McDougall:

The Answer

Debasement is the password of the base,

Nobility the epitaph of the noble.

See how the gilded sky is covered

With the drifting twisted shadows of the dead.

The Ice Age is over now,

Why do a thousand sails contest the Dead Sea?

I came into this world

Bringing only paper, rope, a shadow,
